About Dr. Stephen F. Laga

Education and Training

Dr. Laga's journey in medicine began with a strong foundation in science. He earned his BS in Physics from Adelphi University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1975. He then pursued his medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine, obtaining his MD in 1979.

His post-graduate training includes:


  • Internship at St. Louis University Group Hospitals


  • Residency in General Surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center


  • Fellowship in Cardiovascular Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine


  • Residency in Thoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine


Dr. Laga also holds a Master's in Surgery from the University of Illinois, Chicago, completed as part of a research paper while at Rush.

Military Service

From 1985 to 1988, Dr. Laga served as a Major in the USAF Medical Corps at USAF Tinker Hospital, where he held the position of Chief of General Surgery. His service was recognized with decorations including the Outstanding Unit Award and Expert Marksmanship with two weapons.

Throughout his career, Dr. Laga has practiced at numerous renowned hospitals across the United States, including:

  • Illinois Masonic Hospital, Chicago, IL


  • Elmhurst Hospital, Elmhurst, IL


  • St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN


  • CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial Hospital, Lufkin, TX


  • Northwest Health Springdale Hospital, Springdale, AR


  • Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, MO


Currently, Dr. Laga is affiliated with Froedtert South in Kenosha, WI, where he continues to provide expert care in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
